BHS Corrugated is seeking a Quality Inspector to join our growing team in our Knoxville, TN facility!

Summary:
The primary role of this position ensures all processes produce results that meet or exceed BHS quality standards.  Technician must be able to perform accurate and repeatable dimensional and surface finish assessments.  Ensure all documentation and data entry of inspection results is entered in appropriate databases, to include SAP and Final Inspection folders. This is an on-site position requiring less than 5% travel.  

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Starrett and Manual inspection tables to safely inspect and assess dimensional measurements of all sales orders requiring inspection. 
  • Perform TIR and diameter of bearing journals checks prior to flute grinding to ensure the rolls are within tolerance prior to grinding.
  • Inspect rolls following flute grinding and then again following coating to ensure TIR, flute depth and profile is within tolerance.  Create rework steps for all orders that do not meet dimensional parameters.   
  • Complete all routing documentation and quality data entry into SAP. 
  • Assist machine operators to verify measurement or adjustments.
  • Verify bearing tolerances after bearing installation.   
  • Verify serviceability of the diamond dressers after use.    
  • Perform semi-annual precision measuring equipment calibration.
  • Perform Dye penetrate inspections for cracks and defects.    
  • Utilize best behavioral safe practices and follow all safety procedures and instructions.  Accept ownership of individual safety and maintaining constant safety awareness for self and fellow employees
  • Perform housekeeping of all machines in the quality area, and support preventative maintenance tasks
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawing, blueprints, and follow verbal instructions.
  • Must have the ability to read and use digital calipers, micrometers, depth gauges and other measurements tools as needed. Ability to verify calibration of gauges is also required
  • Flexible and urgent response schedule.  Ability to respond as needed for unplanned downtime situations. Must be available for all shifts and weekends
  • Ability to use computers, SAP and MS office applications. 
  • At least 2 years manufacturing, quality or machining experience.  Technical degree or certification preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

  • The Technician 4 role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs,
    and using precision tools.
  • Fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and occasional bending or
    reaching are needed.
  • Work is in a noisy, industrial setting with exposure to dust and machinery,
    requiring safety gear.
