Safety Specialist
BHS Corrugated is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our growing team in our Charlotte, NC office!
Summary:
This role is responsible in conducting safety audits, identifying potential risks, and providing training to ensure a safe and compliant maintenance workforce in a general manufacturing environment. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong background in safety regulations and training methods, capable of effectively communicating and implementing safety procedures. This includes audits and safety training for all BHS NA segments; BHS Robotics, parts, and administration, M2P technicians, Service technicians, Knoxville manufacturing, and any other BHS associated facility and personnel. This role is an on-site position in Charlotte, NC and requires 30-40% travel.
Responsibilities:
- Audits and Risk Management
- Conduct regular and systematic safety audits of workplace conditions, equipment, and processes.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Follow up on corrective actions to verify resolution and compliance.
- Training and Development
- Develop and deliver engaging safety training courses tailored to employee roles and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate hands-on, simulation-based training to enhance retention and application.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and supervisor training sessions.
- Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with managers and subject matter experts to address audit findings and improve safety program policies.
- Analyze safety metrics, audit results, and incident reports to enhance the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Promote safety awareness, incident prevention, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience with safety audits, training, or a related field.
- Certification in safety (OSHA 30, BCSP certs, Component Person Fall Protection, NFPA 70E, etc.)
- Ability to communicate and work with all levels of employees and management.
- Willingness to learn various job functions to better understand requirements.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 50%), sometimes on short notice.
- Knowledge and understanding of adult learning theory and instructional methodology.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills (learning theory & instructional methodology knowledge, a plus)
- Familiarity with audio visual equipment, e-learning platforms, multimedia materials, and MS Office applications.
- Self-motivated, attention to detail, able to work independently, effectively prioritize, and execute multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Understanding all federal, state, local requirements for environmental and safety practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time in various work environments, including office, warehouse, and manufacturing settings.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance as needed to conduct safety audits and inspections of equipment and facilities.
- Capability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally for handling equipment or training materials.
- Visual acuity to perform detailed inspections and audits, including identifying potential hazards or reading small labels and text.
- Ability to work in varied environments, including exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, and other conditions typically found in manufacturing or industrial facilities.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools, operating training equipment, and managing administrative tasks such as using a computer.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces (e.g., using ladders, scaffolding, or accessing tight areas) as part of safety inspections.
- Ability to travel by car or air, including carrying training materials or equipment to various sites.
Salary & Benefits:
The salary range offered for this position is $75k - $90k per year.
